At the end of the 12th century, the reign of the shogunate was established in Kamakura, but in Kyoto, the biggest city in Japan at the time, the previous order was not yet overthrown. Kyoto of the Kamakura and Muromachi periods was also the centre of trade and industry. In Kyoto, swords, armour, helmets, and textiles were manufactured, and many exceptionally high quality pieces were created. In the Kyoto Handicraft Center, we present everything, from affordable swords, to replicas that aim to be as close as possible to the period originals.
